Great day!

The weather was cold and yucky today, but I had a totally great Monday. Today, I did one of the coolest things I've ever done at work... I got to admit my brother, who's going back to school. How awesome is that?

Another manic Monday

While I'm absolutely loving this weather, it's wreaking havoc on my allergies for some reason. This morning I helped out with 'Day of Caring' on campus, and I've had a headache since. Perhaps it was all of those tree limbs I hauled to the curb. Whatever the reason, I wish my headache would go away so that I could return to my former levels of productiveness.

We had a great weekend in Tulsa. Didn't spend much time in the pool, but we did do quite a bit of shopping and a little bit of napping. Not to mention a whole lot of eating. Joe made some awesome amaretto brownies. I walked two extra miles on the treadmill today, but I think it's going to take awhile to get over my weekend gluttony.

All for now. I'll write more later when I'm more coherent.

Monday, Monday

Just so you know, I'm only updating this thing because it's been several days. I really have nothing to say. I know... what else is new?

Work is still going swimmingly well. All of my afternoon meetings were canceled, so I crossed 10 things off my to-do list. Then I had to add some more so that I could cross them off, too.

Weekend in Tulsa was great. We had brunch on Saturday morning at Queenie's, went shopping at Utica Square, then I took a three-hour nap. Dinner was Cheesecake Factory, followed by a dip in the pool. I came back early yesterday, just in time to take another three-hour nap.

I was productive last night, however. I unpacked, did laundry, and cleaned up the house so that I could take pics for the website. FSBO sign went in the ground this morning.

Happy birthday, Tom Brady! I don't care what Jen says, you're hotter than Peyton Manning.

Signed, sealed, delivered... I am so NOT yours

"How do you tell someone it's over? You send them a notarized letter, right? Well, what if the recipient is your notary?"
~Angela Martin, "The Office"

For once, I identify with the tightly wound Angela. I mean, I've never sent a notarized letter, but I'm near needing some sort of restraining order. How many texts do I ignore before he gets the message? Seriously, if you want to get on my good side, don't text me at 7 a.m. on a Sunday. I am not awake. It does not endear you to me in any way.

Today was the first Monday I've worked in over a month, and this marks the first full week in nearly six. Plus five trips to Rogers. But I got a lot done today. I love my new office. I was turning into one of those bosses... the ones who are out of touch and don't know what people do on a daily basis. Our admin is on vacation this week and today was eye-opening. I mean, I knew she was all kinds of awesome, but I had no idea all of the junk that she deals with so I don't have to. I am humbled. I don't want to answer the phone anymore. No, I don't know where your class is. Where's my diet coke?

I also realized today how not good it is that I'm within walking distance of Target and the mall. It's super convenient to run errands at lunch, but not good for the ol' checkbook.

Dad and V came up after work to treat me to a belated birthday dinner, then I introduced V to my beloved Promenade. I'm sure my Dad is not pleased.

I was uber lazy this weekend, but I did get to see the Texas fam on the 4th, and I'm hoping Jen updates her blog soon with the story about burying the 60 lb. dog in a plastic box full of ice and leaving him in the kitchen overnight. On her birthday. Please, please forgive me for laughing, but that makes my own birthday experience seem less painful. Sure, no one came to my party, but at least nothing died. Except perhaps my dignity.

Tomorrow's another busy day, then it's off to Tulsa for dinner at the Cheesecake Factory to celebrate Nanner's birthday. I walked four miles tonight in preparation.

And Christy, in case you're reading this, I promise to update the other blog soon. I'm praying for guidance!

Oh, and is anyone else sick of hearing about Michael Jackson? Over the weekend, Steve McNair was murdered, there is a serial killer loose in South Carolina, Roger Federer made tennis history, Palin resigned as Governor of Alaska, and our President is decreasing our nuclear capacity, yet Michael Jackson was the subject of the first ten stories on GMA this morning. People, let's get some perspective! He was talented, yet a freak. Let's not canonize him anytime soon.

Weekend update

First of all, Happy belated Mother's Day to all of the special women in my life. Yesterday was a sad day for me because I've really, really been missing my Mom lately. Mostly when I need to vent. Or when I need someone to tell me I'm really special, even if I don't feel special. So yesterday I was bummed because I miss Mom, but I was also grateful for all of the outstanding women God's given me to pick up the slack. My grandmother, who tells me to take care of myself (and makes me crazy). My aunt Kathy, who tells me what to do, but only when I ask. My surrogate Mom Estella, who teaches me how to cook and gives me work advice. Even friends like Sorne, Kelly, Alisa and Shauna, who are loyal to me, even when I'm a jerk. I am supremely blessed!

LB and I haven't kissed, but we did make up. We're making our way back to being really good friends and figuring out what that means for us. He's really an amazing, wonderful person and I'm lucky to have him in my life in any capacity. I mean that. (Of course, that doesn't mean I'm ready to go to his wedding, but I'll get there.) If nothing else, this past week has proven to me how much I mean to him, which is flattering.

Work continues to be a big struggle, but I'm trying to learn my lessons. I've made a lot of mistakes these past few months and some of the things I've had to do haven't been easy. But sometimes you have to speak out, even if it's hard. Sometimes you have to be silent, even when you don't want to be. And sometimes you have to take the blame for things that aren't your fault. I suppose that's part of being an adult.

Ugh. I can't believe it's Monday. Long week ahead! And five days of more rain is really gonna suck.

Springing forward

I don't know about you guys, but I am NOT happy about this spring forward business. Granted, I know I'll love it once I get used to it. I do dig it being light outside until 8 o'clock. But I hate it being dark when I wake up an hour earlier than usual.

Today was filled with doing reports, going to meetings, and playing catch up. The best part was that my pal Kelly came through Siloam, so I got to see her for a few minutes for coffee and to visit (Hi, Kel... sorry about all the boy talk!).

Monday, Monday

Granted, Mondays are never fun, but I've made them worse by committing to do a weekly report first thing each Monday morning... one that involves activity reports and manual tracking of phone calls, appointments, and emails by tick marks... one that is, believe it or not, even more mundane than it sounds.

So each Monday morning I'm subjected to staring at my computer for hours, making tick marks on a sheet of paper and hoping no one distracts me and I lose my place. Yeah, it's hard enough to wake up on the first day of the week without that in front of you.

This morning I set my alarm for 5:30 to get up and run. Two snoozes and 100 minutes later, I realize it's light in my bedroom and I've overslept. Hoping to jump start my morning, I turn on GMA and try to catch up with the national news. 20 minutes on the Presidential dog? REALLY? I lost $15K out of my retirement account in 12 months and we're discussing what kind of dog the President is adopting? IT"S THE ECONOMY, people. I mean, I love fashion as much as the next gal, but I don't care who's dressing the FIrst Lady tomorrow. Let's discuss the slim possibility that Social Security will still exist when I'm ready to retire.

Seriously, I bought a house I can afford and did not get an adjustable rate mortgage. I bought the Camry with the cloth seats and no sun roof. I spent four years paying off credit cards. Where's my bailout? Why didn't I buy Monolos and a Lexus and ask the government for some help? If Presidential Robin Hood plans to take from the middle class and give to the poor, this chick ain't gonna be happy, I don't care how big Michelle's pearls are.

Bad, bad mood. But at least I only yelled at one person today (and, in my defense, he yelled first). I also gave my pal Lindsay a list of people "who make me tired." Blah. Must. get. sleep.

What day is this?

I wasn't meant to be a lady of leisure. It's day seven of my vacation, and all of the days are starting to run together. I haven't showered since Friday, which was the last day I left my house.

Tomorrow I'm headed to Tulsa with my pal Lindsay to eat at Cheesecake Factory and do a bit of shopping. Bring on the pasta!

It's Monday, right?

Anticipation

For the first time in recent memory, I'm actually ready for the weekend to be over. Not that the weekend was bad--I had a pedicure on Friday afternoon and, save for a trip to church, have done very little since then--but I'm ready for the week to start.

Things are stressful at work, but I suppose I'm just ready to get these next couple of weeks over with and have two weeks off. And on the personal front? It promises to be a very interesting week. Of course, I've said that before and been wrong, so who knows?

But bring on Monday.

Monday = fun day

I just experienced my own version of utopia. I'm staying at the Hampton in the Fort, in a whirlpool suite. (And lest you think I'm wasting work money, it was the same price as a regular room.) So I got to relax under the jets while watching Monday Night Football. Life doesn't get much better than that.

I overslept a bit this morning, so I was 30 minutes late to the office, but since I worked until 8 or so tonight, I guess we're even. I was in Fort Smith all afternoon doing branding interviews, then enjoyed a fabulous dinner at my favorite restaurant in the Fort, Rolando's. And since I consumed more than my fair share of calories, after checking into the hotel, I walked two miles on the treadmill in the hotel gym. Needless to say, in all of the nights I've spent in hotels in my life, I've NEVER been to the gym in a hotel before.

Now I'm watching D Mac on MNF.

Tomorrow we're driving to Little Rock and back, so don't hold your breath for a Drivel update.

Mundane Monday

So many words. So little to say.

There are days when this blog seems quite the burden. Oh, it's not that you all put much pressure on me to be witty and/or interesting, but when I see that 70 poor souls have logged onto the Drivel to see what boring thing has happened to me today, I feel compelled to write something.

And so I string words together and feel sorry for whomever has to read them. I really am humbled by your loyalty. Or whatever affliction of boredom that has you reading this blog so often.

Oh, I could tell you about the 90 minutes of conference call that I endured this morning, pretending to pay attention all the while praying that someone would send me an interesting e-mail, or really any e-mail at all, so that I could amuse myself with my evermore addictive Blackberry. I could share that I should have been working on research for a grant proposal this evening instead of spending three solid hours glued to the television, thanking my lucky stars for DVR so that I don't miss a single season finale (all the while realizing that I did, indeed, spend eight-and-a-half hours happily working today, which should be enough).

I'm not quite sure when my life became so dull. It's become so mundane that even I, oh one of such imagination, can't make it interesting prose.

My apologies. Hopefully Tuesday will bring some excitement. If not, I may have to rent someone else's life for a few days.
