25 Things...

Several people have tagged me on Facebook to do this list, but I thought I'd post it here instead.

25 Random Things You May or May Not Know about Me

1. I love to play "Rock Band" with my nephews and can score a perfect 100% singing "Wanted Dead or Alive." I'm that good.
2. I am obsessed with celebrities and talk about their lives like I know them personally. I subscribe to both "People" and "Us Weekly" so that I can keep up with how many kids Brangelina have this week.
3. I once ate an entire box of Krispy Kreme donuts in two days. By myself.
4. When I look in the mirror after a shower and see the hail damage on my thighs, it makes me want to throw up.
5. I would have married 5 or so of my ex-boyfriends if they would've asked. Thankfully God protects the stupid from themselves.
6. When I got my first portable cell phone, I talked to my mom and my niece every day after work. I really, really miss talking to both of them.
7. My musical taste is so varied that I have everything from Miley Cyrus to Ozzy Osborne to George Jones on my iPod.
8. I love to read. I own hundreds of books and re-read books all the time. Not the classics... romance novels.
9. I watch way too much TV. I own two DVRs and have 29 shows on my series record list.
10. I cannot get a pedicure or go to the doctor without first shaving my legs.
11. I drove the getaway car in college for what could be legally construed as criminal mischief.
12. There are 5,172 songs in my iTunes library.
13. I used to have a crush on my friend the lawyer, but I'm kinda over it. And I realize he wasn't that good of a friend.
14. I never thought I'd be 36 and unmarried, but it's not as bad as I thought it would be.
15. If I had my life to live over again, I would have chosen a career as a sideline reporter for the NFL.
16. I need to buy new pants because mine are too big and that makes me really, really happy.
17. They posted and mailed my diploma before I rewrote my master's thesis, so I never fixed it or put a copy in the library.
18. I drink way too much Diet Coke... 8-12 cans a day most days.
19. I can watch football non-stop for days on end, but I don't like baseball at all. Or pro basketball.
20. I don't like Oprah. Or any of the books she recommends.
21. I have never owned a car for more than four years with the exception of my last vehicle, the TrailBlazer that I had for 5.5 years. (which is why)
22. There have only been six months in the past 20 years that I, or my parents, didn't have a car payment on my vehicle.
23. My three dream dinner guests, living or dead, are George Bush (#41), Tom Brady, and the Apostle Paul.
24. I am a very good cook, working my way to great.
25. I own every episode of "Friends" on DVD and I kick butt on the trivia game.

I'm not tagging any of you, but feel free to post your list on your blog... or on mine.

Stay warm, peeps!

Fecal matter

This morning, I got up before daylight to head to the hospital health fair and represent the Cancer Support Home for my pal Trace. It's such a great organization and I'm happy to do what little I can to help.

So I'm sitting outside in the freezing cold, feeling very lucky to be one of the few people in America with insurance, as hundreds of locals stood in line for an hour to get a free health screening. A few people stopped by my booth, asking me questions about at-home colon tests (See: medicine, things Lori should never talk about). I know it's something about fecal matter, but I don't want to think about it.

Two ladies came by to pick up one of my brochures about the importance of a healthy diet and exercise in the role of cancer prevention (something I needed to read as well). One says, "You know, we really should take better care of ourselves and eat better." The other one replies distractedly, "Yeah. Hey... donuts!"

They threw down my brochures and headed for the Krispy Kremes. Sigh. Who brought donuts to the HEALTH FAIR?!?

Alas, I did not eat one. I am strong. I am woman. If putting down the Krispy Kremes keeps me from an at-home colon test, it's worth the sacrifice. And my thighs would agree.

Adventures in leadership

Have you ever been bone-crushing, wearing tired? There's that feeling, and then there's that feeling plus two days of physical and mental exertion on the "adventure learning course" and late nights of watching the Olympics and visiting with people you just met who feel like friends you've known forever. I am exhausted.

On Thursday and Friday I had Leadership Benton County retreat, which I totally had a bad attitude about, and I loved. We spent the mornings getting to know more about ourselves and each other and the afternoons sweating at Base Camp. I was lucky enough to discover that there were plenty of climbers (those crazy enough to climb straight up 25 feet on a ladder, then strap themselves to someone else do go down the zip line, aiming for a tarp while dropping a small cushioned brain... long story), so I got to stay on the ground and attempt to catch the brains, which was much harder than it sounds. But just as weird.

Our last challenge was to balance on a large platform that had some sort of teeter-totter function. Imagine 38 adults who've known each other for 36 hours and have been sweating like fiends bunching up on a big platform all the while keeping it from getting unbalanced. Oh, and someone started singing "Rock the Boat." It could have been me. Then, after talking about our feelings and what we've learned, I booked it home to shower, put on makeup, and change for dinner on Beaver Lake. And since I was not counting on needing to shower nor getting lost in my time plan, I was a few minutes late.

The lake house used to be privately owned, but is now owned by a foundation that uses it for leadership retreats. It's gorgeous, with a beautiful, relaxing view of Beaver Lake outside of the dining room windows. We got a tour of the house, including the bomb shelter and extensive tunnel system underneath. Evidently the man who built it was a bit paranoid. How sad to live in such a beautiful place and not be able to enjoy it.

On the way home I talked to Hope on the phone, who was at Dad's watching a movie. She wouldn't say her ABC's for me, but she was trying to count to 100 very slowly. When my dad told her she skipped 15, she yelled, "Grandpa, I'm talking to Arney!" I laughed and said, "Sister, you did miss 15." She then said, "Well, Grandpa messed me up." Hmmm.. only four and already with the excuses. I was kind of glad she messed up, since the rate she was going we'd only be to 80 or so by now.

So I had a great, if tiring, couple of days. I spent yesterday napping and noshing on the Krispy Kreme donuts I bought because the hot light was on when I drove by Friday night. Now I'm watching the men win basketball gold at the Olympics and getting ready for church. But I'm sure there's another nap in my future.

Tomorrow I'm heading up one of the Day of Caring events in town. It involves manual labor. I haven't exercised in nearly two months, but I choose to get over that in a mere five days. Thankfully I have another massage scheduled for tomorrow afternoon.

Four more days, then I'll be on my way to Temple. The Texas kind, not the Jewish kind. :)

A spoonful of sugar

My back's been bothering me the past week so I haven't been exercising. And today I had dessert after all three meals. Scratch that; I actually had dessert instead of breakfast and after lunch and dinner. Hmm... wonder why my pants are tight?

Today was a momentous day at work because my entire staff was together for the first time. I'm very excited because everyone seemed to gel and have a great time, so I know it's going to be a fun few months. At least until the first one finds a better job.

Tonight I went to a Pampered Chef party in Rogers (after a work dinner at PF Chang's), and since it's my turn to bring devo breakfast tomorrow, I got lazy and drove through Krispy Kreme instead of cooking something. How much sugar can one person consume in 24 hours? At least the hot light wasn't on.
